FONTLOG for Medeo
=================

Medeo is an open font family for Latin and Cyrillic: Medeo Sans, Medeo Mono and Medeo Pixel. It is made by the
studio DNF (https://dnf.dev), which holds the copyright of its changes, for prtner.ai. Licensed under the SIL Open
Font License 1.1 (OFL.txt).

This log is about the fonts themselves: what they are made of and, version by version, what changed in their
glyphs, features, spacing and build. What a release changes for the people who use Medeo is in CHANGELOG.md, and
the languages each family supports, with their number, are in LANGUAGES.md.

What it is made of
------------------

Medeo Sans
- Outlines, metrics, most of the Latin and Cyrillic, figures and punctuation, and the upright a: Geist by Vercel
and Basement Studio (Copyright 2024 and 2026 The Geist Project Authors, OFL 1.1). Some kerning pairs follow
  Geist's proportions since 1.000-rc4.
- From Inter by Rasmus Andersson (Copyright 2016 The Inter Project Authors, OFL 1.1): the letters к з я ж К З Я Ж,
the upright t, the italic e and t, ү and the bar of ұ Ұ, the manat ₼, lari ₾ and lira ₺ signs, the overall
spacing tone of Latin and Cyrillic, and the change of spacing between Inter's text and display optical sizes,
which the display end of Medeo's opsz axis follows.
- Drawn by DNF: the tenge ₸, Uzbek ʻ, the narrow no-break, thin and figure spaces, the Black master narrowed as
Inter builds heavy weights, the optical size axis (opsz 14–32) with its display kerning, and every spacing and
kerning edit since. In 1.000-rc4: the Cyrillic of Bashkir, Chuvash, Udmurt, Mari, Sakha, Komi, Ossetian,
Azerbaijani and Talysh, Altai, Khakas, Shor, Abkhaz and the languages of the North; the West African letters
  Ɔ Ɛ Ɓ Ɗ Ƒ Ɣ Ɩ Ʋ Ɲ Ɨ Ʉ Ǝ Ɖ Ƴ Ƙ Ʊ Ʌ ʔ; Ҧ ҧ; Serbian and Macedonian italic б г д п т; letters with a dot below,
a caron, a breve or stacked marks; narrow marks for i, a dotless ɨ, compact marks for stacks on capitals, and
  the marks U+030D U+0313 U+0330 U+0331. They are built from the family's own strokes, bowls, hooks and tails;
where no part existed (the loops of Ɣ ɣ, Ҩ ҩ), the part is drawn in the family's strokes.

Medeo Mono
- Outlines and metrics: Geist Mono (Copyright 2024 and 2026 The Geist Project Authors, OFL 1.1).
- Drawn by DNF: ₸ ₼ ₾ ₺ built from Mono's own letters in its cell, Uzbek ʻ, top anchors and language systems for
Cyrillic stress marks. In 1.000-rc4: the same new Cyrillic, Abkhaz and West African letters as Medeo Sans, Ҧ ҧ,
Serbian and Macedonian italic forms, fitted to the cell the way Mono draws Ж Ш М; the slanted Ʒ ʒ Ǯ ǯ of the
italic; anchors and mark stacking for the new letters. Nothing is taken from Inter.

Medeo Pixel
- The pixel grid, the pixel component and the five dot shapes of the ELSH axis: Geist Pixel (Copyright 2026 The
  Geist Project Authors, OFL 1.1).
- Drawn by DNF on that grid: the Cyrillic of Russian, Ukrainian, Kazakh, Kyrgyz, Tajik and Uzbek, and the signs
  ₸ ₼ ₾ ₺ ₽. In 1.000-rc4: the Cyrillic of the languages added to Medeo Sans, the palochka Ӏ ӏ, Ѓ ѓ Ќ ќ, Ҧ ҧ,
Abkhaz, the West African letters, Ŋ ŋ, the hook above, the horn and the dot below with the full Vietnamese set,
Ŧ ŧ and Ǧ ǧ in all five element shapes, ₴ and ₹, and tabular figures. Nothing is taken from Inter.

Versions
--------

1.000-rc4 (2026-10-28)
- Expanded Latin and Cyrillic repertoires and combining-mark support in Sans, Mono and Pixel.
All three families cover 759 language alphabets in Google Fonts language data.
- Added Serbian and Macedonian localized italics, Pinyin and additional accent combinations.
- Revised Sans kerning at text and display optical sizes. Matching Latin and Cyrillic forms
use consistent spacing; accented letters retain clearance for their marks.
- Restored the Geist upright a in Sans, including its accented and Cyrillic forms.
- Corrected Kazakh and extended Cyrillic descender joins. Pixel қ uses the Cyrillic к body
in every shape; Pixel ĥ has additional clearance below its accent.
- Added variable-font vertical hinting to Sans and Mono, with coordinated base and accent alignment.
- Added static Sans, Sans Display, Mono and Pixel styles. Static Sans and Mono merge overlapping
contours; variable fonts declare overlaps while preserving compatible outlines.
- Added Pixel tabular figures and currency signs; improved zero and stylistic-feature combinations.
- Preserved the SIL Open Font License and upstream Geist and Inter attribution.

1.000-rc3 (2026-10-25)
- Medeo Pixel keeps its pixels as components of one exported glyph, «pixel», instead of 26,023 decomposed
contours. The TTF goes from 5.4 MB to 0.4 MB and its web files compress about 8× (WOFF) and 14× (WOFF2) instead
of 52× and 110×, which Safari, every iPhone browser and the Instagram in-app browser rejected (and Chromium for
WOFF2): Medeo Pixel now loads there. The drawing is the same; between ELSH 50 and 70, 3.6% of the points
(46,926 of 1,287,954 at 60) move by 1–2 units of delta rounding.
- Nine ogonek letters (Ą Ę Į ą į ų and alternates) placed one pixel of the ogonek exactly on a pixel of the letter;
that ogonek is now drawn with its own pixels and the duplicate is left out. Font Bakery no longer finds
  duplicate components.
- Medeo Sans and Medeo Mono change only their version.

1.000-rc2 (2026-10-25)
- DNF is the copyright holder; OFL.txt, AUTHORS.txt and the fonts' names say so. This FONTLOG.
- Sources renamed to MedeoSans, MedeoMono and MedeoPixel.

1.000-rc1 (2026-10-25)
- The first public release candidate: one version for Sans, Mono and Pixel. npm package medeo-font.
